Free tools
Free Tools
Two free tools for planning a Mac backup setup. Both run entirely in your browser: nothing you enter or select gets uploaded to a server. No account, no email, no catch.
Cloud Storage Cost Calculator
Compare monthly and annual cost across AWS S3, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, Cloudflare R2, Google Drive, Dropbox, and an external HDD, including egress cost on restore.
Free Disk Cataloging Tool
Scan a folder or external drive in the browser: file count, total size, type breakdown, and an exportable CSV. Nothing is uploaded.
We built these because we needed them ourselves while writing about backup storage and drive management. Both tools stay free and standalone. Neither requires Tusk.
FAQ
Yes. Both the cloud storage cost calculator and the disk cataloging tool are free to use with no account, no email address, and no time limit. There's no paid tier or feature gated behind a signup.
No. The cloud storage cost calculator only does arithmetic on the numbers you type in. The disk cataloging tool reads folder and file metadata using your browser's File System Access API and never sends it anywhere; the CSV export is generated and downloaded locally.
No. Both run in any modern browser and work independently of Tusk. The disk cataloging tool needs a browser that supports the File System Access API (Chrome, Edge, or another Chromium browser) for the full drag-and-drop folder picker; Safari and Firefox fall back to a standard file input.
